Strategy & Calculation

The calculation method for ADXR is quite similar to that of ADX, except for an additional step in which we take into account another time period (usually 14 periods). The formula for calculating ADXR goes like this:

ADX = ((+DI) – (-DI)) / ((+DI) + (-DI))

ADXR = (ADX + Previous day’s ADX)/2

As you can see, while calculating the current day’s value, we also consider yesterday’s value in order to smooth out any fluctuations or sudden spikes in either direction.

The ADX is calculated by taking the difference between two other indicators: Positive Directional Indicator (+DI) and Negative Directional Indicator (-DI). The +DI measures upward movement while the -DI measures downward movement.
